The first time I saw stained glass light fall across a stone floor, I thought: that is exactly what fabric can do. This quilt is my attempt to capture that feeling, and it is the most visually striking thing in my studio right now.

The center panel is built around a glowing flame shape filled with blues, teals, oranges, and pinks that seem to shift and glow the way light does when it passes through colored glass. Bold black borders and turquoise sashing frame the design with the same precision that lead channels frame a stained glass window, giving the whole piece structure and weight. Floral quilting runs across the surface, adding texture that rewards a closer look. I even found a stained glass-themed backing fabric to finish it, so the quilt tells the same story on both sides.

This one took patience. The cutting and seaming required to make the flame shape read clearly across that center panel is the kind of work that only shows when it is done right. I checked every seam and every pressed edge before I moved forward, because the effect depends entirely on the precision underneath it. What you see when you hold this quilt up to a window is worth all of that.
